I won't get my hopes up for the U.S. because North Americans suck at soccer.
My money is on Hitlerland Germany or Argentina.

Wack...
It's too bad.....USA isn't quite there yet, but if the thriving popularity and MLS continue to grow the way they are, they will be.
The loss was expected.

the usa have some really good players, but they didnt seem to play as a team against the czechs, but when you have rosicky in ya team like they do and he scores goals like the 2 he scored yesterday, then its gonna be tough for anyone to beat them

Congrats to Australia and Japan for their countries' first World Cup Tournament goals, and to Australia for their first World Cup win.

It's too bad.....USA isn't quite there yet, but if the thriving popularity and MLS continue to grow the way they are, they will be. I'm expecting a loss against Italy as well. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, well, actually I don't, but I don't think the U.S. will not (and cannot) excel in soccer for many years to come because it's simply not taken as serious in this nation. Baseball, hockey, football, and basketball get top priority in this country. And the US has shown that were not best at basketball either. Christ, even NASCAR is considered a "sport" as pathetic as that is. Countries such as Germany, England, Brazil, etc. hold soccer in high regard; first priority. Soccer is an afterthought here, and until that changes, expect fisrt round exits by Team USA; semi-finals at best.

Whoa, what is with all the yanks in this thread. Anyway, i've put money on czech republic. (i did so a month a go, so this isn't a shot at USA). If they win, there is £330 in my pocket. Germany has no chance of winning it due to them being a one man team, Ballack is their only world class player. I'm still not sure who will win, and can't picture Italy or Spain doing well either. The real copetitors are brazil and england due to them being the only teams to have a world class player in every posistion!

Are you crazy?
The home country is always considered the favorite due to support and sheer adrenaline alone ya silly mick.

altho i agree with e2 about the home nation, germany really do not have a good enough team to win it, they will probably make the quarter finals but no further

Put the money where your mouth is and we'll talk.
On second thought, the money might get dirty on the floor.

Yes, the home nation usually does good. But not this time. Germany are one of the most over-rated teams in europe. Germany getting past the last 16 would be an acheivement. The crowd behind you may give you some drive, but it will do nothing against better teams such as Brazil, England, Argentina, Holland, Spain, Italy, N.Ireland , Ivory Coast, Serbia and Montanegro, Czech Republic and France. They have no chance.

i didnt even think northern ireland were ALLOWED to qualify, let alone have the quality to do so! ;D
as for brazil, after the first 20 mins last night they were atrociaous and were lucky to win

^I don't remember, but we would have beaten you loads anyway.
I really don't see the Germs winning this at all, sure they're the home nation but as people have been saying, all they have is Ballack. England have quality players in every position, as do Brazil. My two fave teams!
All the better teams have had mediocre starting games, but i'm sure they'll up the ante when it comes down to the real competition.
Croatia looked really good. Would be nice to see them go as far as they did in 98.
