you must have not watched the same film as i did then.
i went in with my friend George, and we both came out saying it was the scariest horror we had seen. we both jumped several times and the skin on my arms and the back of my neck was crawling throughout most of the movie.
go see it. you will not be disappointed.

So you havent seen the original Ring trilogy, the original Grudge, Audition, Dark Water? All Japanese classic shit your pants horror movies.
I tried to watch the re-make of Grudge last night, and fell asleep. Say no more.
How many more Japanese classics are American directors gonna water down?
If they touch Battle Royale..............................
You want scary modern psychological horror, then Japan is the place to be

Eez
You only live once, get the original version and compare.
Ring 2 is scarier than the first, Ring 0 (the Japanese call all 3rd films in a trilogy 0 for some reason) is good too
If you havent already I do recommend you get hold of, or look out for Battle Royale on TV or in Blockbuster

I have to agree. I never, ever used to watch anything with subtitles as I thought it would spoil the film itself. You know, trying to read and watch the action all at the same time was a bit too much for my blonde side!! However, UKG made me sit through Battle Royale when it was on the TV and I was hooked!! I have seen the original Ring and the remake. Although the Americans were very true to the original story, they made it lighter somehow and less scary. I haven't seen the original Grudge yet, but I intend to. The remake was a damn good story, pity it had that Buffy girl in it...She is so wooden. It had the potential to be a great film but didn't make it. I am looking forward to seeing the original.....In fact, I am hoping Santa may bring it along with the Hellraiser Trilogy (in the funky 'game' box)!

i'll give the original version, battle royale and the rest of the ring trilogy a miss unless they have dubbed english soundtracks on them. i hate subtitles, and generally avoid subtitled movies at all costs. ...and Sarah Michelle Gellar was the only reason i went to the the Grudge. i thought she was great in it, but then, i dont watch her films for her acting

I think that says it all then dont it?
It's a shame you think that way about movies, coz you are missing out on so many classics films
Trois Coulours Bleu, Rouge et Blanche (3 colours Blue Red and White)
Jean de Florette and Manon Des Sources
La Haine
All French movies (all subtitled- sorry)
Das Boot (The original version - German subtitled - sorry)
All those Japanese films we have mentioned (sorry- all subtitled)
You see once British or American directors get their mitts on a classic foreign movie it loses it.
But hey, I cant force you to try new things. Your loss, guess multi-tasking is beyond you.
I thought Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Hero both lost part of it because they WERE dubbed.

I have only seen one French film that I actually liked: Le Pacte des loups (aka Brotherhood of the Wolf). Granted, it was dubbed, but that didn't distract from anything: it's a great action movie.
In the past, I just couldn't get into the movie, primarily due to the cultural differences, I think. Since this one's a period piece, it transcends that gap due to its "historic" feel.
As for the Grudge, I've never seen the original, nor have I seen this latest release due to severely poor reviews from those that have seen it.

i saw hero in the cinema and it was not dubbed. i had to sit through subtitles which really drew the attention away from the onscreen action.
i hear however, that it is to be dubbed on the dvd, so i will buy it to see exactly how much i missed at the cinema.
i don't think anything is taken away from a foreign movie by dubbing. i own MANY japanese and chinese kungfu films, all of which are dubbed. it's the only way to watch them.
but i think you're wrong about americans ruining foreign films. they did a good job with the ring, and with grudge. they do, however, ruin classic british films - just look at Alfie and The Italian Job.

How can you say they have done a good job with Ring and Grudge if you haven't seen the originals?
You have got it right there. Take out 'British' films and add 'Any remake of a foreign classic' and you will be correct.
No offense USA. You can make damn good films and sometimes come up with stories that blow your mind. But leave other countries stuff alone. You cant handle it!!!!!!
As for dubbed films. They are funny. I cant take them seriously. Especially after watching Wayne's World, where he fights with his girlfriend's dad. They dub themselves as they fight..It is one of the funniest scenes in the whole movie!!!!

I just saw it on DVD for the first time after noticing previews for the sequel. Usually if I haven't seen a flick and I see they are making a sequel, I want to check out what all the buzz is all about. Just picked up the first SAW; I'll check it out later to see what everyone says I've been missing.

Saw was great. That was the best horror movie i've seen in a while.
Haven't seen the grudge. Seeing as you all think it's good, i'll give it a look. Hopefully it's not a let down, like The Ring.

The Ring was a bit far-fetched for my liking; however you may find The Grudge a bit more intriguing.

Saw wasn't a horror, for the simple fact that it wasn't scary. It was more of a thriller.
Never seen the grudge, and probably never will. Little Japanese kids suck.
The ring was cool. It was actually kinda creepy.
