As the title suggests, I'd like to say I'm extremely happy for Iraq, in winning the Asian Cup. Considering what the good and Innocent people of Iraq have been through over the years, it's great that a simple thing such as football can unite people and give them a sense of pride. The team consisted of Shi'ite, Sunni and Kurdish players. Due to this, it means that they cannot go back to Iraq and parade their hard fought prize, due to fear of being murdered for being "traitors" to their religion.
Well done. I'm glad these people can be happy, if even for one day.
On a footballing side of things, it's a true under-dog story. In a world of modern football where teams train full time, it's impressive to say the least that a team, with no proper training slots can beat the Asian big guns such as Saudi Arabia, Japan, South Korea and Australia.

I hate to break it to you, but here in the states.... we could give a shit about either Iraq's apparent miraculous victory OR Beckham's shitty game. We just aren't into it.
EDIT: And the bloody hell are Australians considered for the Asian cup? Is it because they aren't close to anybody else?

The Iraqi victory did get some coverage over here, mostly for the shootings and bombings that came with them though.

Yeah Reaper, that's why Australia are included. It's pretty odd. Cups like this are supposed to be continental. But, since Australia has a continent all to it's self, there only real competition for such a cup would be New Zealand. They usually take part of the Oceanic, but they changed recently. This is their first involvement.
And Executioner, who said there was anything wrong with Australlians?

Don't forget that they also gave us Paul "Crocodile Dundee" Hogan and Russel Crowe. But might be willing to give them a pass since they did give us Nicole Kidman.

Nicole Kidman? Thats the best you could come up with... theres probably hundreds of Aussie women that are far more attractive than that slag.

He was more attractive than Nicole Kidman. She looks like she's been on a coke bender for years.
