(OCC:Ive decided after seeing Sin City a few months back to begin my own kind of Noir series of stories. What I will do instead of posting it all at once I will post installments of the stories at a time. Heres the first hope you enjoy.)
Noir Love
Part 1
"You ever been in love? Its a hell of a feeling. Its like it takes control over every function of your psyche. Your mind. Your body. Everything. You cant help it. Sometimes youll just be so happy that your whole life is consumed with being with one person. But you know what the biggest mistake you can make is. And Ive seen this mistake made numerous times. A person will think their in love but not truly stop and think about it. Theyd act on a gut split second instinct. Not think at all. Here they are thinking their with that special someone that is going to give their life meaning. Someone they can laugh with. Someone they can cry with. They think this is it. But what they dont realize is that if they do make that big step. What if that person is really a piece of shit. What if they were feeding you some bullshit just to take you for whatever you got. Thats the worst. Its usually easy to tell who the fuck these people are. If your thinking with your head. Ive seen that fuck up so many peoples lives. To many. I swore I would never let that happen to me. Never." He puffed his cigarette. Realizing it was the last puff he put it out in his ashtray. He sat back and let out a breath. He turned to the girl beside him who had been listening to him. She flicked her chestnut brown hair and continued to listen as the man turned to the bartender.
"Another beer barkeep. What about you honey?" He asked.
"I ll just take a Pepsi." she said.
"Where was I?" He asked trying to regain his thought.
"You were saying youd never let your self run into a relationship without thinking." she replied with a smile.
"Oh yeah. Nah I told myself that. Scott keep your head clear. But no I didnt. I let my guard down for one fucking second. And what did it get me. 5 years of fucking hell. I tried to love her. I truly did. But she kept giving me reasons not to. So one day I just put my fucking foot down. I told her babe what happened. Why did you change into what you are? Was it me? Was it the kids?"
"You have kids?"
"Previous marriage."
"Ah ok."
"I got pictures want to see?" he asked reaching into his pocket and pulling out his wallet.
"Sure why not."
He held out the pictures. One was of a smiling little girl bathing a small dog.
"Theresea. My youngest shes 17 now but shes only 3 in that picture."
"Whats the dogs name."
"Micky. Hes so cute."
He than showed a second picture of a boy being bottle fed by his mother.
"Thats my 18 year old William when he was just 3 months old. Thats my late wife god rest her soul."
"Oh my what happened."
"Cancer. We fought that for thing for years. It was hell seeing her that way. I kind of felt happy for her when she went. No more suffering. You know it took my years to just talk to a woman after that. And when I did look where it got me."
"What about your kids what are they doing now."
"My son still lives at home. Argues with Celeste thats what my second wife the one Im talking about now. I dont know what the fuck hes going to do with his life. My daughter shes run off with her boyfriend. Dont know where. They could be married. I could even be a grandfather right now."
He sunk his face into his palms. She lightly rubbed his shoulder in comfort. The bartender put their drinks infront of them. He lifted his face out of his hands.
"You know I felt good. I did. I finally stood up and took control of my life. I told myself Scott. Your one step closer. My names Scott by the way.
"Jessica." she replied with a smile.
"Well Jessica. Thank you for listening. Not to many people are as kind as you."
"No problem. What are you going to do now?"
"Piece my life back together. Find someone else that I know I can love later on. Try to patch things up with my boy. He needs his dad. I dont blame him for the way he turned out. Mothers death was hard on him to. He needed someone but I guess in my own grief I blocked him out."
"Boys need fathers."
"Yeah they do. You think theirs hope for me?"
"I ll bet on it."
"Thanks."
"Go home Scott." Jessica said with a smile.
Scott hugged her and walked out of the bar. The bartender turned from wiping glasses and looked at Jessica.
"Fuck are you a therapist now?"
"No I just like helping people who are down on their luck."
"What you think Dallas would say if he heard about you letting a potential customer go by."
"You think Dallas has me on a fucking leash."
"Does he?"
Jessica didnt bother answering.
"Are you going to atleast pay for the drinks. Or is the money fairy going to appear and just drop it out of the sky?"
Jessica pulled out some money and threw it on the bar. She turned and walked to the door.
"Keep the fucking change." she said as she left. She tucked her jacket up to neck. She didnt feel like walking back but there was no taxi in sight. So she began to proceed down to her apartment. The only thing she hoped for was that he was already passed out or asleep. She didnt want to play his games tonight. She crept up the stairs to the apartment slowly. She wanted to have enough time to think of what excuse shed make to avoid having to deal any of his requests or demands. She slid the key into the key hole slowly. She opened the door slowly to avoid making to much noise to possibly awake him. She could hear the TV buzzing. She carefully stepped in and gave a quick glance around to see if he was lurking in the darkness waiting for her.
"That you girl?" The voice suprised her.
"Yeah.." She answered back trying to conceal the dissapointment.
"Where you been?"
Jessica realized the location of the voice was coming from the sofa infront of the TV. He must have been lying down but couldnt find the energy to sleep.
"Well you going to be a good girl and answer or are you going to let the fucking cat scratch up your throat."
"I was out." Jessica replied.
"Out where?" He still hadnt bothered to sit up.
"Just out."
Finally she could see the shadowy form sit up. She could see a cigarette being lit in his mouth. He took a drag and exhaled the smoke in her direction.
"You make any green any for me tonight babe."
"You didnt tell me to." She answered back snappingly.
"I shouldnt have to. You should be smart enough to think about that on your own. I dont have to hold your hand do I."
"Please Dallas Im tired. I just want to go to bed."
"Bed. I havent seen you all night and you stroll in at this hour and the only thing your thinking about is bed. I waisted my night waiting on you. You could have the courtesy atleast to have a little chat with me dont you."
Jessica could see him stand up. He turned on the lamp bringing in a some light. He wasnt wearing a shirt. Only denim jeans and a watch. His brown hair was mussed up bit but could be fixed with a combing. He took another drag of the smoke and flung the blanket he was lying under to the floor.
"Come here girl. I got you a nice little spot to sit down. So why dont you come over and make yourself cozy."
Jessica walked over slowly to the couch and sat down. She glanced at the small tattoo of Texas on his chest. Dallas put the cigarrette out and sat down close beside her. He wrapped an arm around her shoulder. He gave a quick stroke of her hair.
"Jessie. You know how much I value our relationship dont you?"
Jessica felt uncomfortable as Dallas placed his hand under her chin.
"You know that I truly truly respect your existence and that I would never hurt you."
Jessica felt the grip on her chin tighten.
"Unless it was absolutely fucking neccessary."
Dallas moved his hand down to Jessicas throat. Before she knew it he was already choking her.
"Now Jessie. I dont really feel like getting rough tonight. But if you keep giving me this little attitude. Well I may just have to teach you some good old fashion manners. Get me."
Jessica held back the tears and nodded. Dallas released the choke. He stood up and walked over to the kitchen table. He took a swig of the Old English forty ounce then wiped his mouth.
"Im going to bed. Dont worry Im not going to waist my time fucking you tonight."
Dallas departed into the bedroom closing the door behind him. Jess made sure not to move until she was sure that he was telling the truth. She noticed that the tears were gone she was happy with that. She didnt want to give him that satisfaction. Jess finally got the strength to pull herself up from the floor. She walked to the fridge and poured herself a glass of milk. She made sure not to make to much noise incase it were to wake him up. She downed the milk and enjoyed its taste better than the alcohol. She walked over to the couch and picked up the blanket that Dallas had been sleeping under. She could smell the booze and smoke that had admitted from him. She decided to go without it. Jess layed back on the couch but found it hard to sleep. All she could think about was what she was going to do tommorow and how to make it as less painful than it should be.
