This is for those intrested in the financial aspect of how the business is run.
WWE held a conference call today to discuss the company’s financial figures for the first quarter of the year, which was released this morning.
It was noted that four pay-per-view events were included into this quarter as opposed to only two being included last year.
Linda McMahon, WWE Chief Executive Officer, gave a statement and put over the extensive WWE library and all it possesses. She mentioned the success of the Chris Benoit DVD and said that they expect the Guerrero and ECW DVDs to be just as successful if not more. She also put over the Ric Flair book and DVD and the success of that release.
Linda also went into WWE 24/7 and said that that the company expects a big demand for classic merchandise and releases.
The WWE Films department has a combined budget of $20 million for their first two projects.
WWE Taboo Tuesday in October was put over well. They called it the first interactive pay-per-view event, ever. Fans will be able to vote on events they want to see during the show via WWE.com.
Following a review of the figures, there was a brief questions and answers session with WWE Chief Executive Officer Linda McMahon, WWE Chief Financial Officer Phil Livingston, and WWE Vice President of Investor Relations Michelle Goldstein.
Some highlights from the Q & A session:
Linda talked more about the library and how they are able to take matches for wrestlers such as Chris Benoit from WCW, ECW, etc. and place them on one DVD. This is something no one else has the ability to do. She also talked about the success of classic action figures and merchandise.
There is nothing specific planned for The Rock, Linda said, but he will continue to make appearances on some shows, but he is not returning to the active roster anytime soon.
There are more TV tapings expected to take place overseas. The UK tour, for instance, will consist of both RAW and SmackDown tapings.
The release for “The Rise & Fall of ECW” DVD is now set for November.
McMahon said that the live events are failing domestically, but that they are still profitable for the company.
The video-on-demand that WWE has introduced online is just a “soft launch” test for future ideas. There are also plans for an online “fantasy” game for WWE.
WWE is still in negotiations with Spike TV for when their contract expires.
