Just saw that there was an act of terror in Glasgow. Also read on CNN that the terror level in England has been bumped to critical, the highest it's ever reached. According to sources (CNN) more threats are imminent. No news is good news I guess. Hopefully, all you over seas are safe.

yeah, two asians (one of whom set themselves on fire) drove a car which was on fire into the terminal at Glasgow Airport. my dad just phoned me to say the BBC are reporting that a similar incident has just happened at Heathrow Airport.
it would seem we're under attack.

This plus the failed car bomb attacks on Friday, seems like someone's trying to welcome Gordon Brown in with a bang.

you really need to shrink that pic you're using as a sig... it fucks up the whole page.
also, i don't think it Brown related. he's been involved in the blair government since day 1. he's dealt with this before. why single him out now?

Woops, somehow I never saw it at full-size.
And I think it could be Brown related because he's just now the number one guy. I'd bet that the cell (if that's what it was) wanted to let him know that they mean business (which they apparently didn't).

I'm sure you'll all be pleased to know, I'm fine! I just can't believe, however, that this kind of thing would happen on my own doorstep. I mean, the Twin Towers events hit me hard, as did the whole of the humane world. The London bombings hit me pretty damn hard to, as it brought it closer to home, albeit on a much lower scale. Now that it's happened in Glasgow, which is really insignificant in the world of politics, kind of scares me a little. Fair enough, nothing came of it, because it seems like the terrorists were thick as shite. But it could have. It was a potentially very fatal incident and one that our Government are taking very seriously.
It basically shows that nowhere in world is safe. And that doesn't make me feel too good about my fellow man.

I'm glad all you guys up there are safe, (rocky, eez, stay that way okay?)
As for the change in the top job, I agree with Eez, this aint about a new leader, sure the timing may be deliberate, but Gordon Brown has had as many years as Former President Blair in dealing with this.
Still seems strange finally having Gordon Brown in the post. GBR has been waiting for it long enough

Eh... Hmm. I really don't think Blair was that bad a Prime Minister. And, as much as the "free world" hate to admit it, substantial part world leader. I don't think any Conservative would have done a great deal better on the grand scale of things in the UK. And, if Brown was in charge, he would still have done the vast majority of things Blair did. Regardless of what a lot of people say, Bush and Blair were on the same page. Bush didn't own Blair. They thought the same. The two were equal minds, as would any British PM would have been with Bush or any President.
I'm being more political than I usually am, but I think things have happened regardless of the PM. The UK is under attack and it won't end if another party comes into power.
I also think Brown will be as good a PM as Blair was, if not better.
I Know I'm taking this thread into a totally different direction, but it's one and all if you think about it. My personal stance on the person leading the UK is, basically, better the devil you know. I honestly think all parties would and will act the same way. Blair did things that the UK and a lot of other countries may live to regret in the coming years. I really hope Brown can decide on his own two feet what's the best for the folk of Britain. Because, whatever he decides will have a massive impact on the rest of the world.

I don't think any Conservative would have done a great deal better on the grand scale of things in the UK. we'd have had to pay less tax and we wouldn't have been brought further into Europe and we wouldn't have implemented as many of their stupid laws. agreed on all counts. Blair said before 9/11 that he wanted to ous Saddam. i agree again. people say it's our foreign policy that is making muslims attack us, but we fought for the muslims when the Serbs were trying to kill them off. and a lot of the attacks happened before we went in to Iraq and Afghanistan. we just have to face the fact they want us dead because we're not muslims. they won't stop attacking us until we're either all dead or converted to Islam. like Blair, the only thing (and i mean ONLY thing) Brown has in his favour is he's Scottish. Brown will make a terrible PM and will be voted out at the next election.

I wish we still had screaming lord sutch, i would vote for him at least, regardless of who is in power either here or the U.S we are under threat as we are not a muslim race, we have muslims in our countries but as a whole we are not a muslim culture, and that makes all of us "marked men"

Did I just read a Scouser say that Margaret Thatcher put the "Great" in Britain? I take it all the shit she did to your city in the 80s, which you've only recently come out of, managed to escape you? And why? Because the people of your city had the gall to elect a Socialist Party to council and she thought you needed teaching a lesson. To the point where even her closest allies at the time (namely Michael Heseltine) stood up against her because it was a vulgar display of power. Ask the millions she put out of work if they think she put the great into Britain. And see what answer you get.
What she said in the quote above, I do agree with to a certain extent. People should be able to look after themselves in this day and age. Yes, there are exceptions. But what doesn't give her statement much sway is the fact, given her actions its a case of "Okay you look after yourselves. You provide for your family etc but hey, Im gonna take your job and leave you destitute, but don't come to me for handouts so you can stop your kids starving. That's your problem. Take some responsibilty."
Fuck Thatcher.

rage...
when Thatcher took over the UK was in recession. she looked at the miners and car manufacturers etc and how they were always on strike. their strikes were destroying the country and our economy. she looked at how they were constantly having to be bailed out with public money as they were too uncompetitive.
she said enough was enough. she told her party that she was going to sort it out no matter what it took. if it meant closing mines, so be it. if it meant closing Leyland DAF, so be it. if it meant higher interest rates and inflation in the short term, so be it. if it meant higher unemployed in the short term, so be it. she was determined that nothing would get in her way of making Britain great again.
and she did it.
she sold off BT, BA and British Rail among others. the public invested in these new 'private' companies. those who did made a lot of money.
then she gave people the right to own their council houses. the public snapped them up quick, and sold them on at a profit.
it seems the public did not too badly out of her so far.
she then went and loosened the law on mortgages allowing many people to get one who couldn't before. she also made it easier to get credit, starting the credit card revolution.
but the miners didn't like her and went on strike again. we had power cuts and 3-day weeks. Thatcher could not let the miners dictate to government how things should be done. she stood by her guns and the miners gave in. Thatcher looked again at how much money the mines were losing and closed them down.
why? no private company can act like that. if a private company lost that much money they'd be closed and the owners bankrupt in a year. it wasn't viable to keep them open.
then she went and fought for our money back from Europe. she told them there was no way in hell the UK would give up power to them. there was no way we'd join the Euro (something Brown has stuck to).
then she unleashed the Poll Tax. sure it was unpopular but in hindsight, it was a damn site fairer that Council Tax. hell, some politicians are even talking about bringing it back.
in short, Thatcher made the UK what it is today - the 4th largest economy on the planet and a country that everyone respects (except islamists).
why do you think Tony Blair said himself he was the true heir to Thatchers throne? why do you think Labour kept on all the Thatcherite principals? because they work. because they're good for the country.
Thatcher is God.
