It's almost that time again: NFL football time. And like most red blooded, heterosexual males in America, I am ready for the hype. Several things have happened during the offseason that have made certain teams immediate contenders. My question to you is, which team do you think looks like an early on favorite?
For me, I'll always love my Philadelphia Eagles, but I will be realistic in saying that, though I think they are a decent team, with a healthy QB and a fresh roster ready to go, I don't have full faith that they can return to the Big One without a talented receiver the likes of T.O. Don't get it twisted, I think they are solid offensively and the defense is like that, but the lack of "superstars" on the squad may be the undoing. That and you have to wonder if a shot to McNabb's sternum will put him on the sidelines for good this time.
My pick for early favorite is the Dallas Cowboys. Big D. All the elements are there for a SuperBowl run. You've got Bill Parcells who has seen and done it all. You've got a quarterback with a PhD in Pigskinomics. You've got T.O., a superstar who wants to win the big game and he's got something to prove in Philly. The only question will be that nagging hamstring injury which people will be gunning for come gameday. Now make no mistake about it, there will be some drama. Difference is Parcells will bench T.O. in a heartbeat and Bledsoe isn't afraid to openly tell T.O. how he feels to his face; something McNabb obviously could not do.
Other teams like Arizona, who acquired Edgerin James in the offseason, are looking impressive. Washington looks strong on paper; and is this the year Eli Manning steps up and takes the N.Y. Giants to the next level?
Discuss....

I can't believe I'm gonna say the Giants.
But Eli is solid, and Tiki made himself a stud running back last year, the question is the D.

Yes, the D is questionable but if Eli can raise his game to the level of Payton's, the Giants may be dangerous for years to come.

It's too early to say. I think the Redskins made some smart moves in the offseason but with with Clinton hurt who knows. I'm going with the Seattle Seahawks. No big changes except the addition of Nate Burelson. Should be a great year.

Steve Smith, DeShaun Foster, Jake Delhomme and Keyshawn Johnston.
That is reason enough to fear the Panthers. Julius Peppers don't hurt none, either.
And one other thing, if there was an award for third-string wide-outs, Kerry Colbert wins it every time. The guy is so clutch, but he's so underrated.

Of course. All you hear about is T.O. Not much talk about the NFC champs. They have an easy schedule and the addition of Burelson is huge for Hasselbeck. Carolina also should be pretty decent. Smith and Johnson will really open up the run for Carolina but who will be the starting RB??

Don't know, negro.
But Carolina at full health is a dangerous squad.
We always hear about T.O. because he sells newspapers and gets the people to tune in. The Seahawks are rather bland and boring, but are a decent squad nonetheless.

Agreed Buckwheat but what are your thoughts on Arizona? Warner, Fitgerald, Boldin and Edge. Weak offensive line and dome to desert for Edge.

Be in last place again. I think I'll just pretend to like another team this year. San Diego may be the lucky pick.

But Carolina at full health is a dangerous squad. Really. If Stephen Davis could stay healthy longer than 3 plays, the Panthers would have been the complete package last year. As for their starting runner, it's about a 50-50 shot between the 5-year UCLA vet DeShaun Foster or the rookie out of Memphis DeAngelo Williams. Either way, the Panthers will have Nick Goings in reserve, who was unbelievably clutch in the playoffs last year. But the three points they need to do are: 1. Keep The HBs Healthy 2. Keep Johnston and Smith happy 3. Make sure to beat the Falcons, Saints and BucaneersThe Panthers have always had problems with Michael Vick, so their emphasis will be on making sure their offense holds them at bay. The Panthers will play the Falcons, Saints and Bucs twice this season (in weeks 1, 3, 4, 10, 16 and 17), so a win and a loss could separate the NFC South representative from a Wild Card. I'm going to sound crazy by saying this, but I'm picking the Dolphins as my sleeper AFC champion-worthy team. Daunte Culpepper could be the missing X-factor in a town that had its last memorable QB in Dan Marino. The Dolphs have had some problems between AJ "Touchy" Feely and Jay Fiedler, but now that Culpepper is there, they have a shot. Their defensive core is solid, their offense is quickly progressing and they've got their real question is their running and receivers. And in the NFC, I'm picking the Eagles as the Wild-Card Sleeper. With the massive injuries, departure of Terrel Owens and lack of any noteworthy recievers, the Eagles are going to have a lot on their plate, especially with Donovan McNabb possibly shooting himself in the foot by saying the Eagles are Super Bowl-worthy, so if they're going to be under the gun until at least week 10. If they can get to week 10 above .500, I'll say they've got a half-decent shot. After their VERY lucky season, I'm going to say the Patriots are going to be looking inside the bubble from the outside. Players are starting to hold out, teams are starting to catch on to Tom Brady, the defense is getting old (especially Junior Seau, a 17-year veteran who was part of the last Super Bowl winning Chargers team), Teddy Bruschi is going to be an issue and Martin Gramatica is no Adam Vinateri by a considerable longshot. In the NFC, I'll say the Seahawks are going to be on the outside looking in. Aside from the Madden Curse, the Seahawks' Super Bowl loss will weigh heavy on their minds, Shaun Alexander isn't going to perform well, Matt Hasselbeck is on par with Tommy Maddox of the Steelers, and with games at Chicago, Denver and Tampa Bay, and the resurging Cardinals and Rams, this year could be a real test. Here's how my Playoff Picture looks. NFC: Panthers (13-3) get home-field advantage by clinching the NFC Division and NFC South. Cowboys (11-5) get home-field, save against the Panthers by clinching the NFC East. Cardinals (8-7) clinch the NFC West. Bears (9-6) clinch the NFC North. Buccaneers (8-7) and Giants (9-6) clinch the Wild Card spots. Wild Card Games: Buccaneers defeat Cardinals. Bears defeat Giants. NFC Divisionals: Panthers defeat Bears. Cowboys defeat Buccanneers.. NFC Conference: Panthers defeat Cowboys. AFC: Colts (14-2) get home-field advantage by clinching the AFC Division and AFC South. Steelers (14-2) get home-field, save against the Colts by clinching the AFC North. Dolphins (10-6) clinch the AFC East. Broncos (11-5) clinch the AFC West. Chargers (9-7) and Jaguars (9-7) clinch the Wild Card spots. Wild Card Games: Dolphins defeat Chargers. Jaguars defeat Broncos. AFC Divisional: Steelers defeat Jaguars. Colts defeat Dolphins. AFC Conference: Colts defeat Steelers. Super Bowl: Panthers defeat Colts in OT.

I have to disagree with your prediction that the Cardinals will win the NFC West. Granted they will be better this year with the addition of Edge and with their receiving core will catch over a 100 each. But they are in a division with the likes of Seattle. I can see Seattle repeating as NFC West champs again. They are gonna have this whole "we got screwed out of the super bowl" chip on their shoulder and will want to prove that they should be the champs instead of the Steelers.
And plus you are not crazy with your dolphins prediction. Miami is in a division with the New England Patriots, New York Jets and Buffalo Bills. The only good team outside of Miami in that division is the Patriots. Last year you saw Miami clicking on all cylinders near the end of the year. There is no reason not to believe that they will start out in the same fashion. Miami could easily win the weak AFC East.
I have to disagree though with Reapers assessment of the 49er's. They are in a division with the Seattle Seahawks, Arizona Cardinals, and St. Louis Rams. They won't finish dead last. Alex Smith is in his second year behind center and from reports it appears that he is a different qb this year. They built up their O-line to protect him and have him rolling out more. I say that they finish 3rd in the division.
Keith's picks for the first 5 teams in next years draft
1) New York Jets- Even with the win against the skins last night, the Jets have no offensive or defensive weapons. They are heading in the right direction with the drafting of D"Bricksaw last year. But the Jets are still about 3-4 years away from making any kind of impact
2) Houston Texans- Proving that they should had drafted Reggie Bush instead of Mario Williams, The Houston Texans will only be beaten for the worst record in the NFL by the above New York Jets. Maybe this year they might get it right on draft day.
3) Buffalo Bills- Could flipflop with Houston but will prove to be another heartbreaker of a year for any Bills fan. If Brady Quinn falls to 3rd in the draft they would be wise to pick him up
4) Oakland Raiders- Aaron Brooks 'nuff said
5) Detroit Lions- When oh when will they can Matt Millen? They haven't had a successful year since he came on as GM. Now that Harrington is out of Detroit, the heat will now be focused on him instead of Kitna
And there you have who I think will have the first 5 picks in next years draft. Now onto Keith's predictions for the play-offs..
Keith's predictions for Playoffs 2006-2007
NFC East: (3)Dallas Cowboys
NFC North: (2)Chicago Bears

I believe that Seattle is going to be playing this year with a chip on their shoulders. They feel like they got screwed out of the championship. They want to go back. If Shawn Alexander doesn't succumb to the Madden curse and has another break out season, I don't see why they couldn't beat Carolina.
Plus for some reason I don't have alot of confidence in Carolina. I can see them going thru the regular season with a good record but come playoff time they won't get past the second round.
But I know that this year I will be keeping my eyes on two teams. The New Orleans Saints and the Arizona Cardinals. They are not playoff bound this year but they will spoil some teams chances come December.
Can't wait for the game tonight. Dallas vs New Orleans. Don't know who to cheer for in this one. I am a die hard Dallas fan, but I want to see Reggie and Drew Brees do well tonight.

I'm going with the New England Patriots. The defense is stronger than last year, plus Deion Branch will get his deal before the start of the season. Plus you have Lawrence Maroney & Corey Dillon coming out the backfield, they'll be a dangerous squad again.
AFC Playoffs: Miami Dolphins Kansas City Chiefs Baltimore Ravens New England Patriots Pittsburgh Steelers (Bye) Indianapolis Colts (Bye)
NFC Playoffs: New York Giants Green Bay Packers Atlanta Falcons Dallas Cowboys Seattle Seahawks (Bye) Carolina Panthers (Bye)

QB: Brees RB: Edge RB: Dillon WR: Chad Johnson WR: Hines Ward WR: Darrel Jackson TE: Jason Witten DEF: Steelers K: Mike Vanderjagt
Speaking of fantasy....I tried last year to get a P2PW FFL but didn't get much feedback. I'd set a free league w/ yahoo if anyone is interested. It would have to be an autodraft.
